Here we go again today I’m telling you about a fabric widely used in clothing Merino wool or Merino’s .
This beautiful fabric comes from a sheep or rather a lady sheep is a highly prized breed and obviously for its fleece, from which a very fine and valuable wool is obtained.
Let’s talk about the origins.
the origins of this stupendous fleece is very ancient begins in the Middle East and arrives in the Iberian Peninsula via Morocco in the Middle Ages.
From here ,Spain derived modern merino in the 12th century, which by law retained exclusivity through the 17th century.
France was given it first from the 18th century, after World War II there was a big explosion (pardon the pun) the main users of this magnificent fabric was the clergy to determine clothing in all 4 seasons, in the 19th century the merino sheep was introduced to Australia and thanks to its particularly suitable climate and immense pastures.
Each sheep can produce up to 10kg of wool , New Zealand is the country with the largest number of sheep, and in the world to date almost half of the sheep are merino sheep .
MERINO WOOL QUALITY.
As we said this type of wool is highly sought after precisely because of its softness, and fineness of the yarn, this is determined by the fact that the Hair of the merino sheep to a common sheep and thinner we speak of 19 microns in diameter.
This characteristic makes it to have innumerable merits ,among the most appreciated resistant to wear, creases , and being lighter it can be worn even in hot seasons, but not only the fineness determines these merits the real difference of the yarn itself of codesto yarn is the characteristic of being curled presenting 12 curls per cm, the curl acts as a thermal insulator since it traps more air this makes this type of wool can be used both in winter and summer
The quality of wool depends on so many parameters among them the most important are:
- The origin
- Cleaning
- Purity
In the first case whether the wool comes from live or dead animals, in the second whether clean or filthy in the third whether the wool is virgin or recycled, but even among merino wool there is first choice is second choice (fine or less fine) example
- The most valuable are the wools that come from the sheep’s shoulders and flanks.
- The least valuable are those that come from the belly or legs because they are rougher, shorter, more defective.
Also of less account is the health of the animal, and the number of shearing (1/2 per year).
- HAND WASH
Buy a detergent specifically for wool that is liquid OR solid but is very mild (woolite label).
- WASHING MACHINE
It is recommended this method of washing only with small garments es( hats, gloves, socks) wash merino wool alone to avoid color transshipment with other garments or that it can make wool balls on the fibers, put the garments upside down in the basket.tercent
There is usually wool washing, use a specific mild detergent, and a maximum temperature of 30 c
When you have finished washing, remove the garments immediately and dry them according to the directions on the label
- DRYING IRONING
Do not use the insurer unless the garment label allowed it but still set a gentle cycle and low temperature
Do not place the garment near a source of heat (radiator or in the sun )carol shrinks the fibers. To iron use a steam iron and only where wrinkled rest it by applying light pressure and lift it up ,repeat the operation until the crease is gone.
If the garment is extremely delicate use a damp cloth, cover the shirt this way you protect the fibers.
TRUCKS
If the mesh has a grease (grease) stain, remove the excess with a metal spoon , wet part of a rag with turpentine and dab the affected area until it disappears.
If during a rinse you notice that the garment loses color, add a small part of salt acts as a fixative ,approx 5/6 gr
Avoid dry cleaning ruins the fiber ,rather hand wash.
Always check the label and strictly follow the instructions.
This fabric from carloalbertotagliegrandi is used so much precisely because of its characteristics we use for sweaters the Zegna yarn baruffa the top of merino sweaters, or as jackets, dresses, since we use both penalty spring summer, and fall winter.
